CALL FOR ARTISTS!
BFF is partnering AGAIN with the Benson Improvement District for another ARTIST BANNER PROJECT- showcasing 16 unique works of art printed on street pole banners that will line the streets of Benson. The banners will be displayed from February 2021-TBD 2021.
Although we typically encourage all artists to submit designs, artist submissions for the 2021 Banner Project will be limited to those artists identifying as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color.
Submission Process
This project is intended to allow artists to showcase EXISTING work.
Artists can submit up to two pieces of artwork for consideration. If selected, artists retain the rights to their artwork and will receive a $50 honorarium. Artists are directed to refer to the banner layout (BELOW) before selecting work to submit. The red lines indicate where the banners will be stitched. All artwork must fit on the white space within the red lines. The area for artwork is approximately 22” by 36”.
All work must be oriented vertically, 300 dpi, and formatted as a PDF.
Digital submissions will be accepted November 9th - December 4th, 2020.
Important Dates
Open Call for Artist Submissions: November 13th-December 4th, 2020
Jurying and Selection Process: December 7th-December 21st, 2020
Selected Artist Notifications: Early January 2021
Banners Installed: Late January 2021

Artwork Submission Form
FAQs
Q: Does my artwork need to be exactly 22”x 36”?
A: No. Artwork that is oriented vertically (tall rather than wide) will generally be accepted.
Q: Do I need to be a 2D artist to participate in this project?
A: No. As long as your work is documented in a way that will translate well when printed on a banner - you are encouraged to participate. In 2017, we had many submissions of ceramic and other sculptural work.
Q: How long will the banners be displayed, and what happens to the banners when they are taken down?
A: The banners will be up from approximately January-November of 2021. After that, they are put into storage. In the future, we hope to take all of the banners from 2017, 2019, & 2021 and display them all together.
Q: What does dpi mean?
A: DPI stands for “Dots Per Inch” and is a term that describes the resolution of an image. This video might be helpful: https://youtu.be/1st3oc-Q6bE
Q: Do I need to create new work for this project?
A: No. This project is designed with artists in mind. We know you’re busy, and we encourage you to use this as an opportunity to display existing work. However, you can absolutely create new work for this project if you want to.
