General Information
All internships are unpaid, however, interns may receive:
Seeking one intern for each of the following departments:
Expectations & requirements for ALL interns:
- Optional college credit through UNO (and other universities)
- Optional artist exhibition at the end of the intern period
- Artist opportunities & “first dibs” through BFF’s programming
- Promotional opportunities through BFF’s media platforms
- BFF SWAG - including staff t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc.
- A free Friend of BFF Membership - including tickets to the annual Members ONLY Ball (TBA Fall)
- Occasional access to studio, meeting, and workspace at Petshop
- A positive professional reference & resume builder
- And other exciting career opportunities

Expectations & requirements for ALL interns:
- 2022 internships run April 25th - October 10th
- 5-10 hours/week (10 hours/week if you want college credit from UNO)
- Attend monthly board meetings & other programming meetings
- Active communication via phone & email, and in-office face-time (dependent on pandemic safety precautions) with team leaders & BFF staff weekly

Departments

First Fridays & Artist Markets First Friday is our longest-run program, happening on the first Friday of every month, year-round. A printed and digital map provides visitors a guide to walkable events and exhibitions located in neighborhood galleries and businesses. BFF also sponsors programming in the neighborhood including youth engagement, hands-on education, digital projections, on-street Artist Markets, street closures, and special annual events like PRIDE (June) and the New American Arts Festival (August) which showcases local refugee and immigrant arts and cultures..

- Act as a face of the organization and positively represent within the community
- Be present and lend assistance during ALL summer first Fridays (May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2) - exceptions are possible with prior approval
- Hang up no-parking signs the day/night before each event
- Social Media
- Attend programming meetings
- During event, intern is expected to be present 1pm-10pm and help:
- Set up
- Attendance track
- Pass out maps & other promotional material throughout the neighborhood
- Work the BFF table and fill in for staff and volunteers when needed
- Work with associated artists & vendors
- Engage with the audience and community
- Assist vendors in check-in, tear down, and associated tasks
- Tear down

Petshop Gallery & Studios Petshop is a shared creative space in Benson, housing affordable artist studios, community galleries, event space, offices, and is home to BFF's headquarters.

- Act as a face of the gallery and positively represent within the community
- Clean and prepare gallery before & after each install/event (wall prep, cleaning, organization, upkeep)
- Be present during each FF (exceptions are possible with prior approval)
- Weekly gallery hours (2-hour sessions on Saturdays 12-2pm)
- **Gallery hours will become fixed beginning in May 2021
- Social media
- Distribute monthly posters
- Be present and lend assistance & input during special events (PETFEST - August 12th & 13th)
- Assist with studio renters and upkeep when necessary
- Attend programming meetings
- Work with artists
- Engage with the audience and community

MaMO Gallery MaMO Gallery (pronounced "May-MOH") is a 42' semi-trailer-turned-gallery that travels regionally, parking and partnering with various communities, organizations, and events. The MaMO hosts interdisciplinary programming, artist residencies, and location-specific exhibitions produced by BFF's MaMO team and representatives from each partnering community.

- Clean and prepare gallery before & after each install/event (wall prep, cleaning, organization, upkeep)
- Be present and lend assistance & input during all events
- Assist in trailer moving (preparing trailer and contents for each move & working with our moving team)
- Social Media
- Gallery installations and tear-downs
- Attend programming meetings
- Work with artists
- Engage with the audience and community

Marketing & Communications encompasses BFFzz publication, social media management, event poster distribution, community calendars, graphic design, street team promotions, newsletters, research, and other marketing strategies for the organization. BFFzz is a quarterly publication (zine or mini-magazine) that transforms BFF’s other programming into a tangible embodiment, showcasing visual art, prose, poetry, photography, comics, community engagement, event documentation, and much more.

- Act as a face of the organization and positively represent within the community
- Social media, including weekly post scheduling, content gathering, creative engagement tactics & organization, etc.
- Should be familiar with (or willing to learn) online media tools
- Assist with and distribute monthly event posters
- Assist with monthly community newsletters
- Assist with press releases
- Manage BFF's Vesta account, and other community calendar platforms
- Assist in the curation and production of the BFFzz publication
- Be present and lend assistance during special events (BFFzz launch parties, Omaha Zinefest, First Fridays, etc). - exceptions are possible with prior approval
- Research strategies including surveys and discussion groups
- Graphic Design when necessary
- Work with artists
- Engage with the audience and community

Administrative Administration provides a behind-the-scenes experience on non-profit and arts management, encompassing staff, volunteers, facilities, financials, development, department organization and other administrative duties. Interns will work side-by-side with BFF’s Executive and other Directors.

- Assist with BFF’s Friends of BFF membership program including:
- Adding new members to the database & general upkeep
- Mailing new member packets
- Working with MailChimp for monthly member newsletters
- Plan, promote, and implement special member events
- Attend meetings and track minutes, note-taking, and associated tasks
- Stakeholder, partner, business, and artist correspondence via emails & in-person meetings
- Seek grants and other funding opportunities
- Data collection and entry
- Be present and lend assistance with membership sales & events during ALL summer first Fridays (May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2) - exceptions are possible with prior approval
- Work with associated artists, staff, and volunteers
- Engage with the audience and community

Photography "focuses" on event photography and documentation of all BFF events, programs, & projects, exploring various editing and photography techniques.

- Work directly under the guidance of BFF's lead photographer, Katera Brown
- Be present and shoot event photography during ALL summer first Fridays (May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2) - exceptions are possible with prior approval
- Edit and store photo galleries for use in social media and other BFF promotions
- Assist in photographing special events & other programs (MaMO Gallery events, Green Team cleanups, PETFEST fundraiser, etc.)
- Attend programming meetings
- Work with associated artists
- Engage with the audience and community

TeenLine + BFF Kids provide community-building programming through the arts, engaging area teens, youth, local schools, and other educational partners.

- Assist with tabling & hands-on activities during First Fridays
- Creative brainstorming on youth activities
- Assist in stocking and organization of activity supplies
